Always follow the care label that came with your sleeve. The tips below are general guidance for stretchy sports fabrics.
A knee sleeve lives against your skin through sweaty runs and long workouts, so it needs regular cleaning. Done wrong, heat and harsh detergent can wear out the stretch and any built-in parts.
The gentle way: hand wash
- Fill a sink with cool or lukewarm water.
- Add a small amount of mild detergent.
- Soak for a few minutes, then gently squeeze the fabric. Do not scrub hard or wring it.
- Rinse until the water runs clear.
- Press out water with a towel; do not twist.
Drying
- Air dry flat or hanging, away from direct heat.
- Do not put it in a hot dryer or on a radiator. Heat can damage stretchy fabric.
- Make sure it is fully dry before wearing or storing.
What to avoid
- Bleach and fabric softener
- Hot water
- Wringing, twisting or stretching it while wet
- Leaving it balled up in a gym bag
If your sleeve has adjustable parts
Sleeves with a dial, springs or pads need extra care. Check the label and avoid soaking the mechanical parts longer than needed. Dry thoroughly after washing.
Skin comfort tips
- Wear it over clean, dry skin.
- Wash after every few uses, or after a very sweaty session.
- Take it off and talk to a doctor if you notice irritation, numbness, tingling or color changes.
When to replace it
- It has lost its stretch and slips down
- The fabric is thinning or fraying
- Parts are damaged
- It no longer fits comfortably
