Why runners wear knee sleeves

What a knee sleeve will not do
A sleeve does not fix training errors, replace strength work or diagnose pain. As Banner Health's sports physical therapist says, a sleeve is only one small part of recovery if you are injured. Persistent pain should be checked by a doctor first (Banner Health).
What to look for in a running knee sleeve
- Breathable, lightweight fabric so it does not get hot or heavy.
- Adjustability. Legs swell a bit during long runs; an adjustable fit helps.
- Non-slip design. It should not roll down at mile 6.
- Correct size. Snug, not restrictive.

Running knee pain: check the basics first

- Hip and glute strength
- Surface and hill changes

How to wear it
Wear a sleeve during the run, take it off afterward, and do not wear it all day. Take it off and see a doctor if you notice numbness, tingling or increasing pain.
